Break The Vicious Cycle
The older I get, the more clearly I see
the cycle of suffering rolling relentlessly:
for a thousand generations, pain has been passed down
as violence, abuse, and all the other hell-hounds. I had my share of insanity handed to me, and I've passed some on, unfortunately... but I swear a solemn oath, yes, I give my bond, I'll do my best to break the cycle, from now on— I'll break the vicious cycle.
We know the basic story, the whys and wherefores,
how innocent victims turn into perpetrators:
a sweet girl or boy who was treated really bad
becomes a vengeful Mama, or a cruel Granddad. I had my share of insanity handed to me, and I've passed some on, unfortunately... but I swear a solemn oath, yes, I give my bond, I'll do my best to break the cycle, from now on— I'll break the vicious cycle.
In one way or another, we receive our wounds,
and mask them with depression, or by acting like goons:
we have another drink, we strike another blow,
